The Rising Souls
This Edinburgh-based acoustic, rootsy trio is one to watch. Fronted by songwriter Dave Archibald, their sound is a wonderful blend of The Wood Brothers and Josh Rouse, with perhaps a hint of the vocal inflections of Paolo Nutini. Tom Reed is on percussion and box. Joining Dave and Tom is Roy ‘Kelso’ Laing on bass.
Got Soul Choir was founded by Maryam Ghaffari in Edinburgh 2012 out of a sheer love of soul music, a passion to serve her community and to make a difference. Edinburgh’s first ever soul choir- Edinburgh’s GOT SOUL Choir was born. Powerful, passionate, professional… a soul shakin’, pulse racin’, foot stompin’ celebration of sound and vision.
Curtis Eller's American Circus
The most fantabulous, craziest, entertaining yodeling banjo player from New York City you’d ever wish to meet!
Having spent a decade toiling away in the musical sweatshops of New York City, Curtis Eller has relocated to North Carolina. Mr. Eller has assembled a new version of his band, The American Circus, and is diligently pursuing his goal of becoming America’s leading purveyor of songs about Elvis Presley and Richard Nixon. The wild-eyed vaudevillian’s banjo-driven, rock & roll songs describe a dreamlike vision of American history where all points in time have collapsed into one. Abraham Lincoln and Fidel Castro can rub shoulders with Buster Keaton and Joe Louis against a backdrop of presidential assassinations, circus disasters and Civil War battlefields.
Voted in the Top 100 Acoustic Guitarists of all time.
Nominated for ‘Best Duo’ – State of the Union with Boo Hewerdine and ‘Best Male Vocal’ in the 2014 Spiral Earth Music Awards.
Brooks Williams is ranked one of the world’s Top 100 Acoustic Guitarists and is a richly diverse and entertaining performer, a proverbial triple threat, with fiery guitar playing, smooth-as-silk singing, and stunning songs. fRoots says Williams is “absolutely beyond criticism!”
The Blueswater are a young award-winning act from Edinburgh who regularly perform across Scotland and the UK.
The band brings in the sounds of gritty old-school rhythm and blues, drawing inspiration specifically from the Chicago blues style of Chess records, building guitar riffs and harmonica solos around a tight rhythm section.
In 2011, they premiered their show BLUES! At the Edinburgh Fringe to great acclaim, and in 2012 received a Mervyn Stutter Spirit of the Fringe Award. The show is still running every August to rave reviews.
